Solarian II
Version 1.1

by Ben Haller, Stick Software

Congratulations on your fine taste and discerning judgment in downloading this most excellent Stick Software product. This file is included inside Solarian II itself, so you do not need to keep it. It can be accessed from Solarian II's help menu.

For those who are not aware, this is a re-release of a classic Mac video game that was originally written for the first color Macs back in 1988. It will look rather dated to modern eyes, but we have deliberately preserved the original retro look for those who remember it fondly. Please don't flame us for releasing a game that "looks like it was written back in the '80s or something". :->

Please note that Solarian II now requires OS X 10.3 to run.

To install Solarian II, simply copy it to your local hard drive. It does not need to be installed anywhere in particular; you can put it wherever you like. However, /Applications and ~/Applications are standard folders for applications in Mac OS X which may be used (where the '~' symbol represents the current user's home directory). Typically, /Applications contains applications that are installed system-wide for all users of the machine, while ~/Applications contains applications private to the current user. Drag Solarian II from the disk image it is distributed on, into the folder where you wish to install it. After it has been copied, you may 'eject' and throw away the distribution disk image. It is recommended that you do not run Solarian II directly off of the disk image. If you are unfamiliar with the use of disk images (.dmg files), you can read more about disk images on Stick Software's web site.

To uninstall Solarian II, simply drag Solarian II from your hard drive to the trash.

Solarian II is shareware, with a cost of $10. Please pay for it if you use it. Stick Software's revenue model depends entirely on the integrity of its customers. The more people pay for our products, the more software we'll be able to make in the future! You can pay online at PayPal or Kagi, or click on one of the payment links in the registration panel. Or if you wish, you can mail a check or money order (in US$, made out to Stick Software) to: Stick Software, P.O. Box 610121, Redwood City CA 94061-0121, USA. You must include a valid email address with your payment, in order to receive your registration code! Once you have received your code, you should click the "Enter Code..." button in the Registration panel and enter your registration name and code. You can request that your code be resent if you have lost it, or never received it.

A note on the registration fee: paid users of the old Solarian II still need to pay the $10 for this OS X port. We don't normally charge for upgrades to our apps here at Stick Software, but two things got in the way of that in this case: first of all, this was more of a ground-up rewrite than an "update"; Solarian II is now a Cocoa application, and it was a whole lot of work to turn it into one. And secondly, we have no records for who paid for the original Solarian II (I was still a teenager, after all, and never expected my little class project to be so successful!), so we could not verify who paid for the original and who didn't anyhow. We apologize if this decision offends anybody, but we're just trying to put bread on the table here...
